Citrus Aurantium

Citrus Aurantium in PermaSlim

Studies show that Citrus Aurantium may be as effective as Ma Huang, but without the side effects. PermaSlim is an appetite suppressant and mild fat burner, which contains Citrus Aurantium.

Citrus Aurantium is commonly referred to as bitter orange. Zhi shi is the immature dried fruit of Citrus Aurantium. Zhi has been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine to treat chest congestion and stimulate gastrointestinal functions.Citrus Aurantium is the first compound that is nearly as effective as Ma Huang, but with reduced potential negative side effects to the cardiovascular and central nervous system.

Until recently, Ma Huang was considered to be the most effective natural thermogenic (thermogenesis refers to the production of body heat in the muscles and fat and is tied directly to metabolism).

However, since 1994 the FDA has received and investigated over 800 reports of adverse effects associated with products containing Ma Huang. Reported problems include disturbances, insomnia, dry mouth, heart palpitations, and nervousness.

The amines (nitrogen-containing compounds) in Citrus Aurantium are not as lipophilic (fat-soluble) as those in Ma Huang, so do not readily cross the blood-barrier. This means that the side effects to the cardiovascular and central nervous systems associated with Ma Huang are reduced with Citrus Aurantium.

Not only is Citrus Aurantium a safer alternative to the many Ma Huang-based products on the market, but preliminary studies indicate that Citrus Aurantium many contain a more effective thermogenic agent than does Ma Huang.

When used in conjunction with an established weight-control and exercise program, Citrus Aurantium helps manage weight in two specific ways:

  1. Increases thermogenesis: by increasing lipolysis and thermogenesis, Citrus Aurantium may enable the body to accelerate the removal of unwanted stores of fat.

  2. Increases physical performance: during aerobic exercise the free fatty acids released from the body's fat stores provide energy for and facilitate increased physical performance.

A unique amine composition that is unrivaled in the marketplace, Dr. Dennis Jones recently discovered that in certain states of maturity, Zhi shi contains a rare composition of adrenergic amines - synephrine, N-methyltyramine, hordenine, octopamine, and tyramine.

While synephrine is best known, the others have demonstrated equally powerful thermogenic properties. Dr. Jones was able to achieve this unique amine composition at a high percentage (6 percent), a proportion unparalleled in other products in the marketplace.

Citrus Aurantium triggers Beta-3 receptors

The key to Citrus Aurantium's effectiveness is its ability to stimulate Beta-3 receptors without negatively affecting Alpha-1, Alpha-2 and Beta-2 receptors. This means that Citrus Aurantium is able to increase the metabolic rate.*

The unique composition of adrenergic amines in Citrus Aurantium causes the release of adrenaline and nonadrenaline - most likely in the vicinity of Beta-3 receptors sites, which are found primarily in adipose tissue and the liver. Stimulation of these Beta-3 receptors results in the breakdown of fat as well as an increase in the metabolic rate.* Zhi shi is the immature dried fruit of Citrus Aurantium, commonly referred to as bitter orange. For thousands of years, Zhi shi has been used in traditional Chinese medicine to maintain stomach and gastrointestinal health and to improve circulation and liver function.

The citrus fruit extract contains a family of organic compounds that promotes the use of energy substrates, stimulates metabolic processes, increases the solubility of fats, and can act as a mild appetite suppressant.

Citrus Aurantium derives from these fruits. The Zhi shi herb, in its natural state, can contain a mixture of these alkaloids of up to 0.8 percent. The Citrus Aurantium formulation is much more potent at six percent. The alkaloids in Citrus Aurantium appear to be gentler and as thermogenic than those in Ma Huang. It is believed that the absence of these side effects and the mild nature of Citrus Aurantium alkaloids result because they do not readily pass into the brain and because they may more specifically target fat cells.*

Actual results with Citrus Aurantium

Results from an ongoing study at McGill University in Montreal, as well as feedback from users under "field" conditions, indicate that taking Citrus Aurantium alkaloids - at normal levels - causes little or no central nervous system stimulation. In contrast, those who take Ma Huang often report a "buzz," which simply means that some of the alkaloids go to the brain instead of to the muscles and adipose tissue.

So far, volunteers in the McGill University study who took Citrus Aurantium exhibited excellent increases in thermogenesis; however, they showed no increase in heart rate, blood pressure, or central nervous system stimulation. A recent independent clinical study also reported excellent weight-loss results from a substance containing Citrus Aurantium, again, with no apparent side effects.
